Indianapolis, IN The 37-acre complex replaces the nearby Wishard Hospital, presenting an opportunity for a complete transformation that is rare for urban academic medical centers. Rather than create a massive single structure, the team assembled hospital elements into distinct programs, creating a series of linked buildings and spaces. This new state-of-the-art facility includes 19 operating rooms and four interventional labs, 12 labor and delivery rooms, a 90-bed treatment room emergency department with a 20-bed clinical decision unit, and an adult Level I trauma center. The program involved a $700 million complete replacement of the medical center and included the construction of 840,000 SF, 350-bed acute care inpatient hospital consisting of labor and delivery rooms, interventional labs, operation rooms, emergency rooms and inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units
